Class Tips

Classes are now in session and it's time to pay attention and learn. In some classes you are told to write notes and read certain pages in your textbook. Here are some tips as to taking notes for your classes.

Notes:

1. While taking notes its best to write the date and have a heading for each section you learn about.
2. Using colourful pens for different sections is a great way to add a pop of colour to your notes.
3. Make sure your notes are neat and tidy so you don't have a hard time with reading over them.
4. Have a little bit of space to write done questions that you have for a section.
5. Highlight and/or underline important parts to remember.

  • Pink = Titles and headlines
  • Blue = For terminology and vocab
  • Green = Definitions and explanations of terminology (green explains blue)
  • Orange = Examples of the term
  • Yellow = Other things, misc.

Second Week

Its the second week of school and we have finally started to take notes in biology. That class is getting harder and harder each lesson. During English classes we have to write journal responses every beginning of class. We have the best discussions for the topics we get and they usually lead up to the end of the block. During lunch me and my best friend, Rhi, walk to Saanich Center for food or stay in the school sitting on the floor near the art room. We don't really do anything fun except talk, listen to music, or go through our social media apps.
When lunch is over I spend my free period going home, or staying at school to work on homework and talk to my peers. There is usually nothing to do when its only the first week of regular classes. During writing class, we write our own short stories.
Also during the week, on Wednesday I had to go to a dance meeting during lunch to check my new dance schedule of the year. I am now happy to say that I'm a senior dancer in the advance dance class after spending 2 1/2 years being in beginners and another 1/2 year being in intermediate.

Locker Organization Tips

Just got my locker on the third day back and it's the same one from last year. Here are some tips on how to keeping your locker clean and organized to make it easier for you to grab and switch out your books.

1. Look at the size of your locker
- Lockers vary in sizes from small to big. For me I have a small locker which has enough space for me to come and go from.
- You can decorate it but keep it minimum. You don't want to go overboard and have to carry a bunch of locker decorations back home after the school year.

2. Placing
- Since I have a small locker on the top I usually put all of my school binders, notebooks, and textbooks on the bottom of the locker, making sure it's upright. This helps me grab the the books I need for my next class.
- My locker has 2 hooks on the top. I usually have my books on the right side on the locker and put my jacket on the left hand side.
- In the bottom left hand corner is a pencil holder where I put pencils and scissors.
- On the top shelf I stuff my dance bag there to keep it out of the way from cluttering my books.

3. Decorating and Personalizing your locker
- I keep my locker decorations limited, to stop myself from taking home to many things.
- I have drawings on the back wall of my locker to hanging from magnet and a few pictures on the locker door.
- You can do whatever you want according towards your own personality.

First Week

School Courtyard before Summer

The first day of Grad year.. ugh... The thought of being a high school senior is kind of stressful. I mean it's the last year I'll be in a school that is quite crowded when walking down the halls to get to your locker, or to your other classes. But this year I only have to be in school for a few classes before leaving to go home. Today I only had to be here for an hour, in a gym with some familiar and other foreign faces. It was probably a bad idea to come wearing heels. Since I wasn't able to get down or stand up properly without a little help from my best friend. Oh well it was my fault for wearing them today. We had to sit through the first year assembly cheering as loud as we can as Grads. It was quite sad since most of us didn't actually cheer as loud as the other grads from years before. I guess it was because most of us didn't really see any point in being excited. We were only a few months away from graduating the school we've been in for at least 4 years. But I guess they only wanted to hear us cheer and celebrate the year that we are finally leaving to pursue a career or to travel the world.
When we were finally called up to leave the gym and meet up at our homeroom, my leg had fallen asleep. It took at least half an hour for that assembly to end. I knew where my homeroom was I just didn't want to get there early so I walked my best friend, Rhiannon, to her advisory class before heading back to the same room I spent every Friday in just last year. Nothing new was announced during this time, but we were able to leave just before the it hit 1 o'clock. Having nothing to do that afternoon I waited for Rhiannon by student services. When we met up we walked back to Starbucks and traded our class schedules.

The first official day were we all attend classes. Except this time we, Grads, had planned to wear white. But not just any white, Cocaine white. I still didn't get what the difference in that was. They were after all just white. Anyways, we all started off the day by going to our first assigned class. Mine just so happened to be Biology. Its not that I don't like that class, its just I got a bad grade last year.... Any who, my teacher handed out our class outline and student information sheets. About an hour and a half was spent on going over this semesters criteria and getting our first ever class textbooks of the year. Let me tell you, they are not the lightest things to carry around with you. When class finished I went to my homeroom class. I was set up in the same class as last year in the same place and with the same locker. I spent all of homeroom trying to get the lock on my locker to open making me walk into my second class, English, late. Not the finest time to walk into a class with a teacher in the middle of a speech. But oh well, couldn't do anything about it. After all it is the first official day of going back to lessons. We had to make name tags and write things about our self on the back of them. After  we had went over the course outline and then did a group activity. The group I was placed in won 2nd place for tallest tower. When the bell rang signalling lunch time I went and headed up to student services to see my home room teacher, Mr. Loukes. I had gotten the right locker combination before heading to my locker with my friends and officially opening it. The whole lunch time was spent going around Starbucks and DQ at Saanich Center. Around the time for third block to start I walked my friends back to school before heading back out to go home. Having nothing to do for third block only meant getting out of school early.
I had arrived back at school 3 minutes before last period would start. I headed to my locker and got the same purple binder I had stuffed my English stuff in. I spent the last few minutes standing there unpacking my bag and preparing for my next class. When the bell rang to signal class has ended, I locked my locker and headed to my last class for the day. During my last class we had to write a short story about our summer. After that we went over the outline of this class. So this is why I have started writing this blog.
