Fourteenth Week

The Christmas sweater I wore on Tuesday night
What a busy week. It's the second to last week before winter break and I have already gotten my grad photos at lunch on Tuesday, finished doing a dance performance on Tuesday night. A biology dissection lab on a sheep's brain on Wednesday morning. And Thursday at lunch  I was helping teach a dance for the teachers, that I am still trying to learn.

During Tuesday, I had dance classes before school and at lunch. Later that evening I had gotten ready for a dance performance that I was doing for dance class. I spent hours at school stretching, practicing, and waiting to perform in the outside hallway of the theatre and the small space near the gym. When I was done performing, I changed into a warmer shirt and went to my locker to get my dance bag. Me and my friend, Claire, went on a walk around the school till the next act was gonna start. I was able to watch the first few, but missed the last two acts due to my dad calling me. I felt a little bad not being able to see my friend, Sam's, monologue that night.

During Thursday's dance lesson, we had a few teachers show up in the theater to learn the choreography that was made a few weeks ago. First showing how the dance goes we were able to teach the moves step by step. After going over the dance a bunch of times, we watched the teachers dance it. A few of them had gotten the moves down, while some where having difficulty with some parts. Quite a busy day filled with dancing and teaching choreography.

Day After Winter Grad

Only getting 4 hours of sleep, I woke up at 5:30 this morning trying so hard not to fall asleep. Justin Bieber's song 'Sorry' was blasting off my radio. I laid in bed for the next half hour on my phone, but noticed that my phone didn't charge at all last night. It was still stuck at 23%. When it reached 6 o'clock, I got out of bed and started to make breakfast for myself. I turned on the TV and changed it till Apple TV was on. I pressed on the YouTube app and started playing Justin Bieber's new album while I waited for my breakfast to finish cooking.

After getting ready for school, I watched a little bit more YouTube videos and finished eating my breakfast. When it hit 8 o'clock, I went back to my bedroom to get my jacket, bag, and biology books. I left the house for school, leaving my brother in bed for the rest of the school day. When I got to school, I went to my locker to put some of my things there and get my binder. Walking down the halls filled with loud and bustling kids from the younger grades. I sat down at the tables in the foyer with my best friend. The tables were filled with grads in sweats, sunglasses, hats, and had coffee in their hand. A teacher came up to us telling us that if we didn't show up for classes today was a rumor. But it was a possibility that we wouldn't be able to go to spring formal.

My biology class had a few people missing due to them being at volleyball provincials. While my other classes had everyone show up. Lunch time was a pain as everyone was really loud and me and my best friend had headaches and were so tired from staying up all night. Trying to get everyone to be quiet was harder than we thought. During my free period I got coffee and hung out at the tables with my other friends talking about what happened the night before.

When I got home, I changed into my pjs and laid in bed on my phone. Around 2 o'clock I had fallen asleep, taking a 3 hour nap. I was woken up a few times by my brother and my dad. After my nap I made soup for dinner and watched more YouTube videos all night.

Winter Grad Dinner & Dance

Picture before having dinner. Great time with these girls.
Today's the day of Winter Grad. Day is soon to turn to night, and everybody will be getting changed into their fancy dresses and tux. Girls will be starting to get ready an hour after school and guys will be procrastinating until an hour before the dance. I'll be at home early, watching episodes of Game of Thrones before getting ready for the night.

Last night I was grateful to have done a facial spa night. Because now my face is clean and spotless, and ready to get makeup on. But instead of watching episodes of Game of Thrones, I stayed on my phone reading fan fiction. When my dad got home I went out for the next 2 hours from 3-5 pm and didn't start getting ready till I came home. I rushed through the house doing my hair, makeup, and eating a little bit of dinner in case the food was really gross at the dance. It took me 2 hours to get ready and out the door. My best friend was texting me when it was passed 7 pm, asking me when I was gonna be there. It took about 3 mins to get to the parking lot and meet up with her.

Half of the gym was set up nice for the dinner portion but the other half lacked decoration and lights. The food was actually delicious but we tried not to go for seconds as we would be dancing for the rest of the night. After dinner, the girls at my table and I took pictures with each other and with the Christmas tree in the gym. Half of the time everyone was saying how nice everyone looked, or at least the girls did. The girls and I talked about how nice the guys looked in tuxedos the night and how there were more guys then girls during dinner. A dance circle was formed around people dancing. I knew a few people who was dancing in the circle. One of my favourite's was my friends boyfriend. He killed the whole dance battle that night.

My dress and shoes for the night, & the rose my date got me for coming late.

Me and my friends danced to a bunch of songs and we were in heels the whole night. Our boy friends came an hour late to the dance, with a rose in there hand trying to make it up to us. Me and my best friend, Rhiannon were pissed that they came in late. We had to introduce them to people because they were asking to meet them. We danced with them for the last half hour before getting ready to leave. The walk to Rhiannon's car felt like forever in heels, but we got to her car and drove to Tim Hortons across the street from the school. We both talked to our boy friends asking why they were late and why it took them so long to get to the dance. We then went inside of Tim Hortons and got some coffee. I called my mom to pick me up from there. We hung out but then Rhi and her boyfriend, Azuz, went to the lounge area of Tims while me and my boyfriend sat in the booth quiet and tired. I said I was going to head out to go home and sleep. So I hugged him and left, while leaving my name was called. But I was out of the doors when I saw Rhi and Azuz through the window. I walked to the door of the car with stuff in my hands so I couldn't open it. I tossed my stuff onto the passenger seat and hugged my best friend telling her I was okay just really tired and wanted to go home. So she told me to text her when I got home.

When I got home, my mom said that she wanted to take pictures of me. So we did pictures in the lobby and then in the living room. My dad even joined in with taking pictures of me with the rose I got in my arms. Tired and sore, I still went through with the photos for the next half hour holding a fake smile. I stayed up posting pictures on Instagram and snapchat. Then read and talked to my friend till 1 am. What a great night. #Gradlife

Thirteenth Week

It was the last day of November on Monday, and the next day was the start of December. It's been an eventful week for me seeing as I have three days full of dance classes; learning and making choreography. Winter formal is in a day and I have already gotten my nails done, but still have to buy two more things for my make up. Totally excited to be going out and having dinner then partying with my friends. It's gonna be a great night. Tonight I have to prep for what I'm going to be doing tomorrow night.

Got to buy a few last minute things. Then test out my makeup and figure out what I'm doing for my hair. It's gonna be a busy night filled with music, makeup, hair products, Game of Thrones, and doing facials.

Twelveth Week

This week seems to be boring. I keep waking up late for school other than on Tuesday. I'm way to tired to be doing a bunch of homework, that my teachers seem to be piling up. Having a test on Monday, an essay on Tuesday, and a bunch of homework due the rest of the other days. It also seemed to be Grad spirit week for the second time this school year. I dressed up for all of the days but never joined the group pictures because I didn't see the point in doing them.
Monday was PJ day.
Tuesday was Twins day
Wednesday was 90s day
Thursday was Jocks vs Nerds day
Friday was Blackout day

Every one seemed to dress up in all black on Friday even though it conflicted with PJ day for the rest of the school.

Eleventh Week

This week has been a really tiring week. It has been raining and we had a power outage on Tuesday morning. Tuesday was cut short as the rain storm had cut all the power. With us being the only high school in the district we were let out early to go out and spend the rest of the day at home or go shopping. I had waited with my best friend at the front for the whole lunch block for our mom's to pick us up. I stood outside in the rain for about 5 minutes and was soaked to the bone. I had to go back inside so I wasn't that soaked when I got in the car. My best friend, Rhiannon had stayed inside and was making phone calls to her boyfriend and texting her mom. When my mom came to pick me up, I noticed that my brother was driving the car. So I said bye to her and ran out of the school, trying to get to the car as fast as I could. So I spent the rest of the afternoon at Hillside checking out stores, and my mom trying to persuade me into getting a new dress for winter formal. But in the end I still chose the first dress I had gotten the month earlier.

Grad Formal Asking

On Tuesday around 2:30 pm. I had waited for my friend to come see me, as he had asked to meet up with me. It was my free period and I usually went home after my last class. I knew what was going to happen today, seeing as me and my best friend had talked about it last Friday when I had waited for the bus with her before walking the rest of the way home.
He was late. He said that he would be here at 1:40 but he wasn't here. So I waited and waited for him to come show up, which felt like forever. I went to Tim Hortons and hung out with a friend who I haven't talked to since 9th grade. We talked for about 40 mins. before starting to head out and go back to school. When I walked out, I saw that my friend was just walking up to the doors. I gave him a hug and he lead me back inside to get some food with his friend. He took my hand and lead me outside to his friends truck. When we got there, he told me to close my eyes. So I did. As I waited with my eyes closed, the song 'Thinking Out Loud' by Ed Sheeran started playing. The same song that we had danced to on Halloween night. Telling me to open my eyes, I saw him with a single rose and a box of merci chocolate in both of his hands. I can't explain how I felt at that moment. So when he asked me to go with him to Winter Formal, I said "Yes". That was a great day even if it meant having to freeze in the morning while running a practice rehearsal for the remembrance assembly. <3<3

Tenth Week

Its the second week of November and I'm happy to say that its my mom's birthday. The sad thing is that I stayed up till 3am this morning and only got 3 hours of sleep....AGAIN!!! Having to study for tests is hard seeing as I have 2 biology tests one day after another. Studying for different sections is easy but hard after getting your test. I knew I should've studied this morning while I got ready for school, because when I arrived late into class this morning and was handed my quiz, I forgot the beginning part of the many veins and arteries that was sectioned off with letters. Near the end of the quiz my teacher stood next to the bench I had labelled my own since the start of the year, with my best friend next to me. The pressure was real when he stared down at my sheet, that only contained half of all the answers, and kept saying if I was going to at least guess what part was what. Unable to focus and remember the parts, I gave up and handed my sheet to him.
On Tuesday, I had gotten up really early to go to school and prepare for the remembrance day assembly that was being held before lunch time. Getting to school I had to change into my dress for the dance we would be performing. But seeing as it was freezing cold that morning, the cold air had traveled and circulated through the whole gymnasium. We had to re-run the dance about 3-4 times that morning to perfect and video tape the dance without everyone seeing it. With the gym being freezing cold my feet had become frozen and numb while we danced for the last 2 times. I was stiff and couldn't move as much in the freezing cold. I was happy to know that I could get some toast before first block but I ended up not going to it. That was due to doing a run through of how the assembly was going to start and how it was going to end. Having a little bit of time after the run through I had left school to get some coffee from the Tim Horton's across the street with my fellow dance mate, Britney. We spent the rest of our first class having coffee and just talking about our classes. When the bell rang to signal us that first class was over, we had separated ways to go to our next class. When I get to Biology I had told my teacher that I had to leave early to get ready for the assembly that would be held 40 mins later. So before leaving class, I had finished my biology heart quiz and took a few notes before leaving the class and heading down to the theater room to get ready with the other girls. We had gotten changed into our dresses for the second time that morning and started to fix our hair and make up. After that we had blasted Justin Bieber's new songs and started to stretch and get ready for the assembly to start. Before the assembly started we had left the theater and headed towards the gym to get seated in our reserved seating area in the front. Once everyone had filed into the gym and took a seat somewhere on the bleachers or the seats that were scattered and lined up on the gym floor. The assembly had started and had ended in the most respectful way, we did not clap or cheer we had stayed silent and respected the whole assembly in peace. I had even teared up near the end of the assembly when the slideshow was showing the family members, of the staff and students here at Reynolds, that had been involved in the world wars or are still out there helping out with the wars that are being held in today's society. I had paid my respects by honoring those who had died to give us a better future that we should be living in today.
The whole morning was dedicated to the people who had died for us and we should not forget that they went to war to give us a better life the what we could've had.

"In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below."

Ninth Week

It's the first week of November, which means next week will be the time I will be performing a group dance with my fellow dancers. Thinking that this week would be great, I was totally wrong. After having an okay day of school on Monday, I was left alone for a few hours seeing as my mom was working till midnight and my dad and brother were out in Sidney, fishing. When my dad called the house and told me to cook rice and wash the dishes. I had discovered that in the dishwasher, a mug and a plate were broken into 2-3 pieces and a glass cup was starting to crack on one side. So I went out across the street, to the dollar store to see if they had any superglue that was able to hold ceramic. During my time in the dollar store I saw a fellow Reynolds Graduate, Kristy, working at the cashier and a fellow writing classmate, Emma. We had talked about what was soon to be due for writing class the next day. After buying the glue and a pair of earphones, I went home to repair the mug and finish doing my chores before my dad and brother came home from Sidney. Trying to open the packaging was difficult and I had resorted to using a pair of scissors which then resulted into me stabbing myself in the hand. That started my bad luck for the week.
Tuesday I was closing the house door for my brother, when he pushes the door and hits my hand and really close to my face.
Wednesday
On Thursday morning, I was running late to school and had to walk 10 minutes over here. Carrying my biology binder and English novel I started to walk down the staircase in the foyer. But with my bad luck this week, I had missed a step and fell down the rest of the way down. I had bruised my knees and elbows, hurt my chest, and got hit in the stomach with my binder. The only good thing about that day was that nobody saw me fall down the stairs. So I went the day slightly embarrassed.
On Friday, I found out I had popped my shoulder out of its socket due to the pain in my left arm. When I got home I saw that my shoulder was bruised and it was not the same as the other one.

Eighth Week

It is the eighth week of school, which means I have already done enough tests and quizzes for past month and a half. But with this week being the last week of October, events have been planned out for the Halloween spirit.
During the week, the school office had been decorated with posters and signs, and above the entry way were cobwebs with tiny plastic spiders in them. Tickets were being sold for Thursday nights Halloween dance during lunch time but I never bought tickets because all of my friends were either busy or not going due to the amount of guests your allowed to take.

So instead on Thursday night, I stayed home doing homework that was just given out to us during the week. I never saw the point in going to it after having it ruin.
My freshman year, the fire alarm went off due to the fog machine filling up the whole gym. We had to stay outside for the next half hour.
During my sophomore year, a guy came up to me and my friends and started grinding on one of them. We were freaked out.
And last but not least my junior year, I went with a group of friends and two of my friends weren't into it. One wasn't able to breathe so he had to sit down for most of the time, and my other one seemed a bit upset and wouldn't tell me what was wrong.

So this is why I never went to the Halloween dance this year. They always end badly.

Seventh Week

It's the seventh week of school and I officially passed my road test Monday morning. I had skipped my morning classes due to preparing myself for later that morning to take my road test. The many emotions I felt the first time I had to take it had got to me. So in result I had failed it on my first try. I had less emotions raging through my body as I had calmed down and knew what to expect for this last time.  I did a practice drive for an hour and a half with my driving instructor, Jon. When we got into ICBC, I signed in and paid for my road test. Sitting down for a couple of minutes, waiting for my name to be called. I saw my family out of the windows. They had came to support me.  That helped boost my confidence but also I had to keep repeating the words "I got to pass" in my head. So when we got back to ICBC, I was told that I had passed and was also excused for missing a shoulder check and a 360 check. The emotions I felt were everywhere. I had texted my best friend that I passed and even posted a pic on snapchat and a post on facebook. That's how happy I was when I had officially passed my road test.

Sixth Week

It's the sixth week of school and its a very short school week. Seeing as Monday was Thanksgiving for us, we had to go back to school on Tuesday morning. What a great week to start off a day late. After Thanksgiving I had to wake up early for my dance class the next day and it was very annoying. My alarms were blasting out so loud that I had to shut them off about 5-6 times every morning. That was the most stressful time of my 4 years here in Reynolds. Sometimes I wish I was able to stay in bed for a couple of hours, but that would end up turning into a habit so waking up in the early mornings are better.

Fifth Week

It's the fifth week of school and it's the same as every other week. But this week, we started choreography for dance class. Which we will be performing for the Remembrance Day assembly on Tuesday November 10, the day before Remembrance Day. It was great to know that we would be performing for the first time in the Remembrance Day assembly as I had always sat in the same rows and watched the others perform for the last 3 years. This time it was gonna be me and the new girls that had just started their freshman/sophomore year. It was a busy week to say the least.

School Rules

Being a high school student at the same high school for 4 years, you'd think that some of us would know our school rules by now. Well no, most of us don't. We try to make up whatever reason we can to get out of trouble, but with being a high school senior we are looked upon to be mature enough to not get into any trouble.
At school we follow the 3 important R's of Reynolds. Which are:

Fourth Week

It's the fourth week of school and it's grad spirit week. Monday, we had to wear white and also set up the school in all white. It was a great thing for all of us grads to get together and set up. Tuesday, was grad toga Tuesday. Where all the grads had to make a toga from white sheets and wear it to school. I didn't really participate in doing that because it would be hard to walk home in. On Wednesday we wore orange to commemorate Indian Residential Schools. While on Thursday we wore tight and bright clothing.
On Friday it was Reynolds school wear. Seeing as it was the last day of cops for cancer at school, I had worn my large grey Reynolds hoodie. Only having to go to school for my first class, Biology 12. In Biology, we had to form groups of 3 and make diagrams of DNA and RNA molecules then describe them from how different they were from each other.

Studying and Preparing for Essays and Tests

It's only been a few weeks into the new school year and I've already taken over 3 tests in Biology and have done 2 essay exams for English class. Here are some things to do before a test and preparing for an essay.

Studying:

1. Always give yourself enough time to study. Never leave it at the last minute.
2. When studying its best to turn off anything that will distract you from focusing on the subject.
3. Organize the study space you are in. Make sure it is somewhere you are able to stay focused.
4. Reading your notes out loud is more helpful and can help you memorize more things.
5. Read sections of the textbook each night helps increase the chance of memorizing important parts.
6. Rewriting is also a good way to memorize things as well.
7. Organize a study group with friends or classmates. This will help benefit both you and your friends and classmates.
8. Take breaks regularly to relax the brain. Ex. Watching videos, listening to music, or dancing around your room.
9. Snack on 'brain food' it helps you stay awake and gives you more energy to study.
10. Drink plenty of water to keep you from dehydrating.

Preparing an essay:

1. Make sure you know what the topic of the essay you are about to write.
2. When preparing for an essay, it is best to do a bit of research. Either from books, on the web, articles, movies, etc.
3. Write key points about the topic on a sheet of paper, or on the back of the sheet you were told to write on.
4. It's best to write points that are also relatable towards the audience/marker.
5.  Get as much points about the topic you will be writing about.
6. Draft out a rough copy of how you will be explaining about the topic.

Note: In some classes you are able to take your ideas with you to write out your essay.

Third Week

We were back in school again on Tuesday. After having a long weekend of doing nothing but having to study and look over notes. Tuesday morning was the beginning of dance classes and let me tell you it was tiring. After all it was the first time of actual physical activity I had done in the past 3-4 weeks. Classes were the same as the week before. Taking notes, writing a journal response and making short stories. But since it was Tuesday, I was able to leave school early instead of staying for another hour and a half.
On Thursday, I had dressed up in the nicest clothing I had for school photos. But seeing as it was our last year, I was given a white leis to make this years photo one of the most memorable and better looking school photos I have ever taken.

Class Tips

Classes are now in session and it's time to pay attention and learn. In some classes you are told to write notes and read certain pages in your textbook. Here are some tips as to taking notes for your classes.

Notes:

1. While taking notes its best to write the date and have a heading for each section you learn about.
2. Using colourful pens for different sections is a great way to add a pop of colour to your notes.
3. Make sure your notes are neat and tidy so you don't have a hard time with reading over them.
4. Have a little bit of space to write done questions that you have for a section.
5. Highlight and/or underline important parts to remember.

  • Pink = Titles and headlines
  • Blue = For terminology and vocab
  • Green = Definitions and explanations of terminology (green explains blue)
  • Orange = Examples of the term
  • Yellow = Other things, misc.

Second Week

Its the second week of school and we have finally started to take notes in biology. That class is getting harder and harder each lesson. During English classes we have to write journal responses every beginning of class. We have the best discussions for the topics we get and they usually lead up to the end of the block. During lunch me and my best friend, Rhi, walk to Saanich Center for food or stay in the school sitting on the floor near the art room. We don't really do anything fun except talk, listen to music, or go through our social media apps.
When lunch is over I spend my free period going home, or staying at school to work on homework and talk to my peers. There is usually nothing to do when its only the first week of regular classes. During writing class, we write our own short stories.
Also during the week, on Wednesday I had to go to a dance meeting during lunch to check my new dance schedule of the year. I am now happy to say that I'm a senior dancer in the advance dance class after spending 2 1/2 years being in beginners and another 1/2 year being in intermediate.

Locker Organization Tips

Just got my locker on the third day back and it's the same one from last year. Here are some tips on how to keeping your locker clean and organized to make it easier for you to grab and switch out your books.

1. Look at the size of your locker
- Lockers vary in sizes from small to big. For me I have a small locker which has enough space for me to come and go from.
- You can decorate it but keep it minimum. You don't want to go overboard and have to carry a bunch of locker decorations back home after the school year.

2. Placing
- Since I have a small locker on the top I usually put all of my school binders, notebooks, and textbooks on the bottom of the locker, making sure it's upright. This helps me grab the the books I need for my next class.
- My locker has 2 hooks on the top. I usually have my books on the right side on the locker and put my jacket on the left hand side.
- In the bottom left hand corner is a pencil holder where I put pencils and scissors.
- On the top shelf I stuff my dance bag there to keep it out of the way from cluttering my books.

3. Decorating and Personalizing your locker
- I keep my locker decorations limited, to stop myself from taking home to many things.
- I have drawings on the back wall of my locker to hanging from magnet and a few pictures on the locker door.
- You can do whatever you want according towards your own personality.

First Week

School Courtyard before Summer

The first day of Grad year.. ugh... The thought of being a high school senior is kind of stressful. I mean it's the last year I'll be in a school that is quite crowded when walking down the halls to get to your locker, or to your other classes. But this year I only have to be in school for a few classes before leaving to go home. Today I only had to be here for an hour, in a gym with some familiar and other foreign faces. It was probably a bad idea to come wearing heels. Since I wasn't able to get down or stand up properly without a little help from my best friend. Oh well it was my fault for wearing them today. We had to sit through the first year assembly cheering as loud as we can as Grads. It was quite sad since most of us didn't actually cheer as loud as the other grads from years before. I guess it was because most of us didn't really see any point in being excited. We were only a few months away from graduating the school we've been in for at least 4 years. But I guess they only wanted to hear us cheer and celebrate the year that we are finally leaving to pursue a career or to travel the world.
When we were finally called up to leave the gym and meet up at our homeroom, my leg had fallen asleep. It took at least half an hour for that assembly to end. I knew where my homeroom was I just didn't want to get there early so I walked my best friend, Rhiannon, to her advisory class before heading back to the same room I spent every Friday in just last year. Nothing new was announced during this time, but we were able to leave just before the it hit 1 o'clock. Having nothing to do that afternoon I waited for Rhiannon by student services. When we met up we walked back to Starbucks and traded our class schedules.

The first official day were we all attend classes. Except this time we, Grads, had planned to wear white. But not just any white, Cocaine white. I still didn't get what the difference in that was. They were after all just white. Anyways, we all started off the day by going to our first assigned class. Mine just so happened to be Biology. Its not that I don't like that class, its just I got a bad grade last year.... Any who, my teacher handed out our class outline and student information sheets. About an hour and a half was spent on going over this semesters criteria and getting our first ever class textbooks of the year. Let me tell you, they are not the lightest things to carry around with you. When class finished I went to my homeroom class. I was set up in the same class as last year in the same place and with the same locker. I spent all of homeroom trying to get the lock on my locker to open making me walk into my second class, English, late. Not the finest time to walk into a class with a teacher in the middle of a speech. But oh well, couldn't do anything about it. After all it is the first official day of going back to lessons. We had to make name tags and write things about our self on the back of them. After  we had went over the course outline and then did a group activity. The group I was placed in won 2nd place for tallest tower. When the bell rang signalling lunch time I went and headed up to student services to see my home room teacher, Mr. Loukes. I had gotten the right locker combination before heading to my locker with my friends and officially opening it. The whole lunch time was spent going around Starbucks and DQ at Saanich Center. Around the time for third block to start I walked my friends back to school before heading back out to go home. Having nothing to do for third block only meant getting out of school early.
I had arrived back at school 3 minutes before last period would start. I headed to my locker and got the same purple binder I had stuffed my English stuff in. I spent the last few minutes standing there unpacking my bag and preparing for my next class. When the bell rang to signal class has ended, I locked my locker and headed to my last class for the day. During my last class we had to write a short story about our summer. After that we went over the outline of this class. So this is why I have started writing this blog.
